M’s start second half with sluggish performance, lose 7-0 to Giants

Recent Struggles
The Seattle Mariners (48-50) began the second half of the 2026 season on the same note they finished the first half, minus the 8-2 win over Tampa Bay to finish the half on July 12th, as they mustered just two base hits courtesy of Josh Naylor and Luke Raley.
Since the beginning of their last road trip, seven games including last night, the Mariners are hitting just 42-223 (.188) while being outscored by 2.5 runs per game (2.9 RS/G, 5.4 RA/G).
Game Recap
Bryce Miller went 5.2 innings against the Giants, allowing three runs on seven hits with six punchouts and a walk. The first two runs came in the fifth inning off of rookie Bryce Eldridge's ninth home run of the season. Miller would escape the inning without further damage and started the sixth by surrendering a base hit to Heliot Ramos, followed by a throwing error by rookie shortstop Colt Emerson on a double play opportunity which allowed Jung Hoo Lee to remain at first, before nailing Drew Gilbert with 94 mph fastball.
Jose A. Ferrer would come on in relief, immediately walking Drew Cavanaugh to load the bases. Luis Arraez would give San Francisco a 3-0 lead after a rare error by second baseman Cole Young. Ferrer would get Eldridge to ground out to end the inning.
Nick Davila, who sported a 1.86 ERA over 19.2 innings coming into the game, would begin the seventh by allowing two base hits, a Rafael Devers flyout, and a hit batsman to load the bases with one out. After starting Willy Adames with a high-middle slider for strike one, his next pitch would be a hanging slider over the heart of the plate which Adames would launch 393 FT to center field for his 16th home run of the season, giving the Giants a 7-0 lead. Davila would retire two of the next three Giants to escape the inning.
Cole Wilcox and Michael Rucker would then finish the game for Seattle, both tallying an inning of scoreless relief. Bryce Miller was saddled with the loss, his fourth of the year, and saw his ERA climb to 2.27.
Giants starter Landen Roupp would hurl seven shutout innings allowing just two hits, the aforementioned singles by Naylor and Raley, with three walks and two punchouts. Jason Foley and Caleb Killian would each post an inning of relief with one strikeout to finish off the shutout win.
Game two of the three-game set will be at 5:08 PM PDT on Saturday, July 18th.
Bryan Woo is slated to start for Seattle and Logan Webb will go for the Giants. In eight home starts in 2026, Bryan Woo is 6-0 with a 2.10 ERA and has held opponents to a batting average of .156 (28-180). Logan Webb is 3-3 in eight road starts with an ERA of 3.99 and a BAA of .236 (42-178).

Julio Rodriguez is scheduled to make his return from the IL Saturday following his recovery from the concussion he suffered earlier this month against the Angels.
Will J-Rod be the spark the M's need to reignite the lineup? The M's are 63-318 (.198) and have been outscored by nearly a run a game, 5.0 RS/G and 5.7 RA/G, as well as being 4-6 in the ten games since their star center fielder went down.
